Unique effect, how to get, and build usage

Anathema of the Primes is one of the Uniques added in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, and it’s one of the greatest offerings for Warlocks. It’s designed for one of the strongest builds in the game, making it a must-have, if you wish to run that particular build. However, it can have a pretty low chance to drop. Thankfully, there are a few options available to you, especially since the Lord of Hatred expansion added some new ways to get Uniques.

One thing to be aware of though, is that Uniques no longer have guaranteed stats, so we won’t bother with that. That said, it does still have its incredible, ridiculous power, so here’s what Anathema of the Primes does in D4, and how you can farm one up.

What is the Unique effect of Diablo 4’s Anathema of the Primes?

Below is the in-game description of Anathema of the Primes, the Diablo 4 Unique Two-Handed Sword. It’s a Warlock-exclusive Unique, and while many builds could potentially use it, it does the best when you’re using a Demonform build:

“Hitting enemies with a Core Skill increases the damage they take from you by [15-20]%[x] per Skill, up to [45-60]%[x]. Archfiend Demonform Skill Variants are Core Skills and cost Wrath.”

What this means is that, while you can use the default Core Skills to ramp up their damage in a serious way, the Archfiend Demonform Skill Variants now also count as Core Skills, when you’re in the Demonform itself. But where can you pick up this great Unique?

How to get Anathema of the Primes in Diablo 4

There are a few ways to pick up Anathema of the Primes in Diablo 4, but right now, the boss that drops it is Andariel. You need to at least be on Torment I, but the odds of getting a Unique drop on Torment I are still pretty low. The higher your Torment difficulty, the better the odds of getting a Unique are. We haven’t heard of any other boss that drops it yet, but we’ll update if we hear something.

In addition, you can simply take a Two-Handed Sword White (Common) sword to the Horadric Cube. One of the major updates in Lord of Hatred is that you can dump a Common item into the Horadric Cube and convert it into a random Unique of that item type. This doesn’t guarantee you Anathema of the Primes, but there’s still a chance.

Finally, you can also collect 5 Boss Trophy drops from Andariel, and convert those into a random Unique that she drops. Again, this won’t guarantee the item you want, but there is a chance, and it’s worth taking.

What build(s) can get the most out of Diablo 4’s Anathema of the Primes?

While there are several builds that can utilize Anathema of the Primes in Diablo 4 (Blazing Scream, Hell Fractures, Bombardment builds for example), the best one is likely going to be a Tyrant’s Grasp build.

It’s easily one of the most powerful builds for the Warlock class right now, and allows us to spam Tyrant’s Grasp as a Wrath ability. The build calls for using it as a method to jump into Demonform and pull enemies in, making it an ideal way to start accessing all of your amazing powers in Demonform.

It’s not the only required item for this build (Hecaton Chasm is also a must-have), but it will really ramp up your damage capacity. Some players prefer Anathema as a Charm though, while others keep it as a Sword. Both options are solid, either way.
