Right on cue, the Rangers re-sign Scott Morrow. Just one day after questioning what’s going on with the young right handed defenseman, Morrow has re-signed with the Blueshirts on a one year contract. Surprisingly, it’s a two-way contract, which for the millionth time does not impact waivers. Morrow will earn $850,000 in the NHL and if he doesn’t make the cut and clears waivers, $125,000 in the AHL.
The two-way contract indicates the Rangers may not view Morrow as an NHL defenseman, at least not in Mike Sullivan’s system. That’s a tad alarming, but there’s a reason why they have camp. Morrow will need to play his way into the discussion and, at the very least, outplay Urho Vaakanainen for the 7D spot. Nothing has changed with my stance, that he needs a legitimate chance on a team that actually cares. We shall see how this goes.
