Last week’s poll asked which one of Samsung’s new foldables has caught your attention, and we have a clear winner. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the foldable most of you would get, but there’s another consensus across your votes. Samsung’s new foldables are too expensive.
With a starting price of $1,900 for the 256GB storage trim, the Fold8 is a big investment. The same applies to the Z Fold8 Ultra, which is an even steeper $2,100. The Z Flip8 is the more “affordable” entry out of the three, but it’s not exactly cheap at $1,200.

As with past Samsung flagship launches, prices should come down in the coming months, which should make the Z8 series more enticing. But then again, the current memory chip crunch is not going away anytime soon, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Back to the Z Fold8, it’s easily the most interesting Samsung foldable in years. The shorter and wider aspect makes a lot of sense for daily use cases, especially on the cover screen. Consuming media on the 4:3 inner screen is also a better experience than the squarish Z Fold8 Ultra and all of Samsung’s past big-screen folds in both landscape and portrait view.

The Fold8 is thin and light, which makes it feel exceptionally good in day-to-day use. The software is polished, and Samsung’s DeX makes this a viable laptop alternative in crunch situations.
Honestly, the Fold8’s main weak point is the cameras, where an extra telephoto sensor would make this a much more appealing package. We could say the same about a larger battery, but there’s always next year.
