Anna Kalinskaya has come under fire for brushing off Maja Chwalinska after losing to the latter in the quarterfinals of the French Open 2026. The two fought for a place in the semifinals of the clay court Major on Wednesday, June 3, with Chwalinska scoring a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win.
Kalinskaya wasn’t too complimentary of Chwalinska during her post-match press conference. The Russian opined that her younger rival, who has mostly played on clay this season save for a handful of matches on hardcourts, had the upper hand due to her comfort on the red dirt. She would love a grudge match on hardcourts or grass in the future.
Thanks for the submission!
“Well, I checked her statistics before, she only plays on clay. So, she played maybe three matches on hardcourt. I don’t know. Let’s see how she’s going to because now she has a better ranking. She’ll have to play different surfaces. So, I would like to take revenge on grass or hardcourt,” Kalinskaya said.
For context, Chwalinska has played three main draw matches on hardcourts at the WTA level this year. However, she has played a total of 14 matches on the surface after taking qualifying and Challenger matches into account.
Fans weren’t too pleased with Kalinskaya’s dismissive attitude towards Chwalinska. They took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their displeasure about the same.
“She is such a sore loser, Camila Osoiro my queen you’re always right,” wrote one fan.
“My goodness, Anna Kalinskaya, don’t be a sore loser! You can’t have it all! Grow up, loser!!!,” wrote another fan.
“She is so jealous and talking like a proper sore loser,” commented a fan.
“Making a fool in front of the whole world only because you are so frustrated after you lost – priceless,” chimed in another fan.
“She lost to Maja and that’s it..and none of her scribblings will change that. Embarrassing,” wrote one fan.
“She’s so salty and comes off as an awful person lmao I hope she never sees a title!,” wrote a fan.
“Disrespectful tone, btw,” expressed another fan.
“And she is a grand slam semifinalist without 200+ hard court matches on tour, stay mad Anna!,” commented a fan.
“Better check the information next time XDDD Maja ate you today girl,” said one fan.
Kalinskaya will now aim to move past this loss and focus on the upcoming grass swing. Chwalinska, meanwhile, will aim to progress to her maiden Grand Slam final on Thursday.
Maja Chwalinska to face Diana Shnaider in the French Open 2026 semifinals

Maja Chwalinska will lock horns with Diana Shnaider in the semifinals of the French Open 2026 on Thursday, June 4. The latter stunned World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Chwalinska has been on a roll in Paris so far, and that includes her three wins during the qualifying rounds. There’s a sense of deja vu in the air right now as the Pole finds herself on the cusp of replicating a historic feat.
Emma Raducanu won the US Open 2021 as a qualifier, and remains the only player to do so in the history of the sport. Chwalinska is now two wins away from accomplishing the same. If she beats Shnaider, then she will face either Marta Kostyuk or Mirra Andreeva in the final.
