The Rangers have waived goaltender Spencer Martin, a move that shouldn’t surprise anyone, as the Blueshirts continue to make rapid changes to their training camp roster. Martin is the fifth player that the Rangers have placed on waivers, but the only one placed on waivers today. Urho Vaakanainen, Juuso Parssinen, Justin Dowling, and Dennis Cholowski all cleared waivers earlier this afternoon.
It’s a bit surprising that Vaakanainen clear waivers, as teams are always looking for competent depth defensemen. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him involved in a trade before the season starts. There are teams dressing far worse players.
Center Bryce McConnell-Barker was also assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Injuries really derailed this kid’s future, sad.
As for Spencer Martin, he will serve as the fourth string goalie behind, in order, Igor Shesterkin, Dylan Garand, and Joonas Korpisalo.
