Rangers final roster includes 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies

With both Dylan Garand and Taylor Raddysh on waivers, and only Raddysh expected to clear, the Rangers final roster has been set. The roster will have 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies, as the Rangers held onto both Joonas Korpisalo as backup goalie and Matt Rempe as the 13F. The Rangers also made two wise decisions by keeping both Scott Morrow and Alberts Smits. It doesn’t absolve them of other self inflicted wounds, of course.

With the roster set, the expected lineup for opening night will look something like this:

Pavel Dorofeyev-JT Miller-Oliver Bjorkstrand
Alexis Lafreniere-Mika Zibanejad-Gabe Perreault
Will Cuylle-Noah Laba-Eeli Tolvanen
Tye Kartye-Joe Veleno-Jaro Chmelar/Matt Rempe

Vlad Gavrikov-Adam Fox
Marcus Pettersson-Sean Durzi
Alberts Smits-Braden Schneider
Matthew Robertson/Scott Morrow

Igor Shesterkin
Joonas Korpisalo

As a reminder, the Rangers final roster for opening night is never the same roster that closes out the regular season. Injuries will happen, guys will be elevated in the lineup and/or called up, and perhaps we may see a trade or two to free up space for a kid who forces the issue.

It’s tough to get past the sting of (likely) losing Dylan Garand on waivers, but we should note Alberts Smits was given every opportunity to make the Rangers final roster, and he did just that. The Rangers also recognized they should hold onto Scott Morrow until a Braden Schneider trade can be worked out.
