Per Frank Seravalli, the Rangers and Ducks are talking Mason McTavish. In May, I wrote that if he was truly available, then the Rangers should absolutely be targeting McTavish, and it looks like Chris Drury is doing just that. McTavish, a 23 year old center and former first round pick, is looking like a cap and roster casualty in Anaheim, which makes him the perfect target for the Blueshirts.
Cost is still unknown, though it’s worth noting that the 5th overall pick is probably in play for McTavish, as it was rumored to be in play for Bowen Byram. Braden Schneider is likely the best fit given Anaheim lost all their RDs to free agency this summer. Does Schneider and the 27th overall get it done, perhaps with another sweetener? Possibly. Schneider and Noah Laba, a cheaper and lower in the lineup center perhaps?
This is the type of deal that moves the needle, assuming the cost isn’t astronomical.
