The Rangers are what they are at this point. They are 1 point behind Montreal, but the Habs have two games in hand. They are two points ahead of Columbus and the Isles, but both teams also have two games in hand. The Rangers hold the tie breakers with all of them, but at this point they may have dug themselves a hole too deep. Montreal simply needs to keep pace and the Rangers can’t catch them.
So for the Rangers to make the playoffs, they need to start winning games against playoff teams. Given everything we’ve seen from this disaster of a season, they haven’t earned the benefit of the doubt. That’s out the window. Play the game. Put in effort. Win games. That’s it.
