NFL fans mock “cringe” Eagles legend for “trying to upstage Pat McAfee” on MNF

Jason Kelce is easily one of the greatest players in Philadelphia Eagles history, winning a Super Bowl and being named an All-Pro and Pro Bowler multiple times. However, his broadcasting career has left much to be desired.

On Monday, exasperated viewers watched as the former center shared the stage with former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown. Their derision toward the scene can be seen in the comments below:

“Please, for the love of God, get Jason Kelce off air,” one demanded.

“Jason Kelce is cringe trying to upstage Pat McAfee,” another winced.

“Ahhh yes, Monday Night Countdown. The Jason Kelce and Pat McAfee screaming match,” another joked.

“I genuinely dislike Jason Kelce,” one raged.

“Jason Kelce is so annoying,” one grumbled.

“Jason Kelce is appealing to no one, correct?” another asked.

Besides Kelce’s MNF commitments, 2026 also marks his first season as a color commentator. He was one of two booth analysts when the NFL played games in London earlier this month.

The second of those was an Eagles 17-19 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and much controversy emerged when Kelce was spotted on air using “we” when referring to his former team. The backlash towards his commentary was so intense that longtime ESPN producer Jeff Dufine had to address it to the Philadelphia Inquirer:

“We’ve tried to get the ‘we’ out of him.”

Jason Kelce among candidates to replace Troy Aikman on MNF

Speaking of Monday Night Football, Jason Kelce could be graduating to a much bigger role soon.

With Troy Aikman set to become a free agent after 2026, there is a strong chance that ESPN will need to replace the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback beside Joe Buck, who will begin a six-year extension in 2027. And USA Today’s Chris Bumbaca listed Kelce as a potential in-house option (ESPN owns the NFL Network, where he currently works):

“Kelce is still a novice in the booth, but he will always have an X-factor as an entertainer. The ‘MNF’ booth without a third microphone might prove to be too tall an assignment for someone who does his best work freelancing. But if ESPN wants star power to replace Aikman, they already have one Kelce on their roster.”

ABC/ESPN will air the Super Bowl at the conclusion of the season.
