Future iPhones will have one less button, new rumor claims

Apple introduced the Action button with the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 18 Pro still has it. Now, a tipster on Weibo claims the company is planning to combine the Action button and the Camera Control into a single button on next year’s iPhones.

The dedicated Action button will allegedly start disappearing from new iPhones in the second half of 2027. Its functions will move to the Camera Control, with a single press opening the Camera app and a long press triggering the shortcut assigned to the Action button. The tipster specifically stresses that it’s the Action button going away, not the camera key.

Future iPhones will have one less button, new rumor claims

The post doesn’t name any models, so it’s unclear whether this would apply to the entire fall lineup or only some of it. Either way, the claim is that Apple will remove a physical button without dropping its customizable functions.

We’ve previously heard that next year’s Pro models could feature a more substantial redesign, with quad-curved screens being tested in prototypes. Whether the rumored button change is part of that redesign remains to be seen.
