Comstock: Some History of Great Meadow Correctional Facility

Big Jim Larkin, the labor organizer, Irish Republican activist, and co-founder of the Irish Citizen Army who fought the British during the 1916 Easter Rising, is perhaps the most well-known inmate to have spent time at Great Meadow Correctional Facility, popularly known as Comstock Prison.

During his stay there in the early 1920s he was visited by his close friend and fellow revolutionary Constance Markievicz, who noted Larkin’s dismay at being keep from politics.
