Cape Verde’s FIFA World Cup hero Vozinha has revealed that he supports Premier League champions Arsenal. He named Barcelona as the other side he follows and backs in Spain.
Speaking to Men In Blazers, Vozinha heaped praise on Spanish players David Raya and Rodri. He said that they are great players, adding that Manchester City are one of the best sides in the world.
Thanks for the submission!
The 40-year-old goalkeeper went on to add that the Cape Verde players were aware that the FIFA World Cup clash was bound to be hard. He is delighted that the world got to see the talented players of his country and said:
“I am a fan of Barcelona, I am a fan of Arsenal also. [David] Raya was on the bench and he’s a great goalkeeper. Rodri plays [for] Manchester City, that is one of the best teams in the world. But when the game starts, I think we forget that. The game was very hard, very difficult, but we are there to give our best. We know they have a lot of quality. This (giving everything) is the key for us, and the key to make a good game.”
Vozinha made seven saves in the game against Spain, in what was his FIFA World Cup debut. The recalled turning into a professional footballer at the age of 25, when most players peak, and said:
“I would tell 18-year-old Vozinha to be really proud of himself. I have worked my whole life for this moment. I’m 40 years old. I started playing football professionally when I was 25, in 2012. I thought about leaving, but I continued because of this dream. This is for everyone. I was named man of the match, but this is for all of my teammates because without them nothing would be possible. I will continue to work for Cape Verde and for the people.”
Cape Verde face Uruguay next in the FIFA World Cup, before taking on Saudi Arabia in their final group stage game.
Vozinha becomes Instagram sensation after FIFA World Cup heroics
Vozinha started the FIFA World Cup with fewer than 50,000 followers on Instagram. He was known to Cape Verde fans and to the supporters of the clubs he played for in his career.
However, the one performance against Spain saw him reach 1.8 million followers by the time he left the pitch. At the time of writing, he has reached 11 million followers.
