The brook trout was initially adopted as New York’s state fish in 1975; it was re-adopted as the official state fresh-water fish on August 16, 2006.

So, it’s fitting that the state legislature is re-affirming its commitment to brook trout conservation on the 20th anniversary of the re-adoption of the brook trout as NY’s state fish.
