Second seed Alexander Zverev will take on Rafael Jodar in the quarterfinals of the French Open 2026.

Zverev moved past Benjamin Bonzi and Tomas Machac in straight sets. He then beat Quentin Halys in four sets to reach the fourth round, where he was up against lucky loser Jesper de Jong. The German found himself on the backfoot at the start of the opening set, dropping the first three games of the match.

Zverev eventually got back on serve, and came out on top in the ensuing tie-break to claim the set. The second set also went his way courtesy of a break of serve in the 10th game. He wrapped up the proceedings in a hurry, handing out a breadstick in the third set for a 7-6 (1), 6-4, 6-1 win.

Jodar won his opener here against Aleksandar Kovacevic in dominant fashion, dropping only five games. He needed four sets to dispatch James Duckworth, and was pushed to five sets by Alex Michelsen. He took on compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta in the fourth round.

Jodar led by a break in the first set but squandered his lead and ultimately lost the set. The second set also slipped out of his grasp. He bounced back in style in the third set, conceding only one game to clinch the set. A five-game run helped him capture the fourth set to level the proceedings. Jodar sustained this momentum in the decider, breaking Carreno Busta‘s serve twice for a 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 comeback win.

Zverev took control of the match after a slow start to end de Jong’s run in Paris. He has advanced to his sixth consecutive quarterfinal at the French Open, and overall eighth quarterfinal. He has a 17-4 record on clay this season. With most of his chief rivals out of the way, the German knows this is his best shot to claim a Major title.

Jodar was ranked outside the top 700 a year ago. He’s now through to his maiden Major quarterfinal and is set to make his top 25 debut at the very least. He has compiled a 19-3 record on clay this year.

Jodar’s matches have gotten difficult with every round. After back-to-back five-set matches in gruelling conditions, he could be running on fumes. Zverev, on the other hand, has lost only one set so far. While the teenager has the tools to challenge Zverev, the latter’s impressive record in Paris and prior experience at this stage gives him a decisive edge.

Pick: Alexander Zverev to win in four sets.
