The North Carolina Tar Heels lived to fight another day in the College World Series Final, forcing a game three decider with a 6-2 win over the Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday. Reliever Caden Glauber closed out the last five innings for the Tar Heels, as the lineup wrested control after the Sooners took a 2-0 lead.
The loss snapped a nine-game postseason win streak for the unseeded Oklahoma Sooners (42-23), looking to win the programme’s third national title and first since 1994. The Tar Heels (54-13-1), the fifth seed, are looking to win their first national championship.

North Carolina vs Oklahoma Game 3: Preview
The Tar Heels easily outpace the Sooners in runs scored with 542 runs all season, 76 more than their opponents, but Oklahoma has hit 16 more home runs and has a better slugging percentage (.492). On the mound, however, Oklahoma pitchers have compiled a 5.12 ERA, whereas the Tar Heels have a 3.92 ERA collectively.
Owen Hull has been the brightest hitter in North Carolina’s lineup. He has two extra-base hits and two home runs in the CWS finals in Omaha. His walk-off hit in an elimination game against USC brought them to compete in Omaha. Cooper Nicholson has hit a team-high 16 home runs for North Carolina.
Oklahoma’s Deiten LaChance leads the Sooners with 18 home runs and 68 RBIs at an impressive .339 average this season. LaChance hit two home runs in Game 1 of the CWS Final but was quiet, going 0-for-4 on Sunday. Carson Brumbaugh paces the team with a .385 average.
North Carolina being undecided on their starting pitcher could mean an “opener” before Jackson Rose goes to work. He pitched 4.1 scoreless innings on just two hits in the CWS semifinals against West Virginia. Oklahoma’s Nick Weslowski allowed one earned run over 5.2 innings in a big win over the third seed, Georgia, in the CWS second round.
