29-year-old star undergoes serious surgery days after wrestling on WWE SmackDown

AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo del Vikingo recently suffered a knee injury while preparing for a recent title defense on WWE NXT against E.K Prosper.

The 29-year-old star last wrestled on SmackDown a week ago, when the blue brand episode the week after Night of Champions was taped immediately after RAW. He faced Rey Fenix for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, but lost despite his valiant effort. However, Vikingo notably missed a Springboard 450 towards the end of the bout and landed badly, which marked the beginning of his knee issues.

Vikingo’s knee was later swollen, and his title defense on NXT this week was removed at the last minute. The AAA Worldwide star recently underwent knee surgery and posted some photos from the hospital on Instagram.

Here’s the post caption translated from Spanish:

“Nothing will ever be the same again, but everything can be better than it ever was. HDLV family, everything was a success, thank God. Thank you, my beautiful girl.” [Translated on Instagram]

Vikingo is one of the rising stars in WWE’s AAA, and fans will hope that Vikingo’s recovery and return to the ring happen as swiftly as possible so that he doesn’t lose any momentum.

The AAA Cruiserweight Championship is being defended on WWE SmackDown

WWE had an entire cruiserweight division on SmackDown in the 2010s with the coveted Cruiserweight Championship as its top prize. The division helped create legendary stars such as Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero, Billy Kidman, Tajiri, Spike Dudley, and many more.

The Cruiserweight Title, with its division’s high-flying stars, helped make lower-card matches exciting, but it was unfortunately discontinued in 2007.

SmackDown has started having matches for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, the Mexican sister promotion AAA Worldwide’s version of the belt. The belt and champion Rey Fenix are helping resurrect an old trend in a new way. Fenix has successfully defended the title on SmackDown in two high-flying and action-packed matches.

The latest one was against El Hijo del Vikingo, who is the current AAA Latin American Champion. The match ended with Fenix dropping Vikingo with a Mexican musclebuster, but in a spot leading up to it, Vikingo injured his knee.

We wish El Hijo del Vikingo a speedy recovery.
