2025-2026 Jonathan Quick report card

The 2025-2026 season was the final season in Jonathan Quick’s Hall of Fame career. After resurrecting his career as a backup with the Rangers two seasons ago, Quick’s final two seasons saw stark regression as the team around him crumbled. The 40 year old goalie started 25 games for the Rangers, putting up a .891 SV%, his third worst save percentage of his career. He won just six of those starts and lost 17 in regulation. That’s more on the quality of the team around him, but his performance wasn’t exactly stellar.

What’s interesting about Jonathan Quick’s final season is that the Rangers actually played better in front of him than they did in front of Igor Shesterkin. Quick just couldn’t hold it together anymore, as his actual results were far worse than his expected results. Though it’s worth noting Quick was actually pretty solid on the penalty kill. His 5v5 numbers were just atrocious. I guess that’s what’s you expect of a 40 year old goalie who relies mostly on reflexes.

There isn’t much else to analyze in Quick’s play. He was a 40 year old backup goalie who was in the twilight of his career. He performed very well when the Rangers needed him two seasons ago, the closest they came to a Cup in this recent run. But as the team regressed, Quick’s play went with it. Quick didn’t come into his final season with lofty expectations, so this was about what we should have expected from him.
