The Rangers are still rolling through January on an 8 game point streak and a 6-1-3 record. The run has made them relevant again, as the Blueshirts sit 4 points out of a wild card spot, but in need to pass 3 teams in the standings to do so. They played a pair of three point games against two of those teams this past weekend, beating Columbus but getting a point in Montreal. Now it’s Ottawa, another team ahead of them.
Making the playoffs is still a tall order for the Blueshirts, but the teams ahead of them really have no business being ahead of them. Montreal, Columbus, Boston, and Ottawa are–on paper–worse than the Rangers. It was that horrid December that crushed the Blueshirts, and now they need to make up ground. Though the Rangers are looking to shake things up, their goal is to win. Tonight won’t be any different.
