India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja erupted into an animated celebration after dismissing Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva to break a 95-run fifth-wicket partnership on Day 5 (Wednesday, August 19) of the first Test. The contest is being played at the Galle International Stadium.
The dismissal came on the second ball of the 56th over of Sri Lanka’s second innings. Jadeja bowled a full delivery on off, and the right-hander went for the sweep but managed only a top edge. The ball went towards short fine leg, where Manav Suthar made no mistake in completing the catch, with Jadeja roaring in delight.

Ravindra Jadeja had earlier dismissed the Sri Lankan skipper on Day 4, when Dhananjaya edged one to KL Rahul at first slip for seven. However, the left-arm spinner had overstepped, allowing the batter to survive. On the final day, Jadeja eventually got his man, with Dhananjaya departing for 59 off 151 balls, including seven fours. His dismissal left Sri Lanka at 142/5 after 55.2 overs.

Seamer Prasidh Krishna then made his presence felt by dismissing Kamindu Mendis for just two off 12 balls. Lahiru Udara was the next to depart, scoring 16 off 58 balls before becoming Suthar’s second wicket of the innings.
Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and first-innings centurion Sonal Dinusha then steadied the innings, adding 95 runs off 202 balls for the fifth wicket before the former was dismissed for 59 off 151 balls by Ravindra Jadeja. At the time of writing, the hosts were 151/5 after 58 overs, needing 221 more runs to win, with Dinusha (53 off 96) and Niroshan Dickwella (6 off 6) at the crease.
