    SummerSlam 2026 promises to be an action-packed extravaganza over this weekend with several matches that could potentially steal the show. One among them sees Gunther face off against SmackDown GM Nick Aldis. Though this would mark Aldis’ first WWE match, The Ring General claims it might also be his last.

    Nick Aldis has done tremendously well as the authority figure on SmackDown, but many fans are well aware of the fact that he’s also a seasoned in-ring performer. Before his WWE signing in 2023, Aldis had a decorated career both in TNA and NWA. His feud with Cody Rhodes over the NWA World Heavyweight Title is among the best of the last decade.

    While it increasingly looked like fans would never get to see Aldis wrestle in WWE, this changed for good in the buildup for SummerSlam 2026. He’s now slated for a high-profile match at The Biggest Party of the Summer against Gunther, a man notorious for making veterans like John Cena, Goldberg, and AJ Styles retire.

    Ahead of the PLE, Gunther sat down for a chat with Complex Graps, where he underlined how unlike Nick Aldis, he was a full-time competitor and at the peak of his career. The Ring General said that Aldis’ return would remain a one-off, as he intends to send him back into retirement after defeating him at SummerSlam 2026.

    “I’m the one that’s wrestling all the time. I’m in the peak of my career. His career is basically over and I guess it rejuvenates now, but it will be over at SummerSlam again.” (H/T – RingsideNews)

    Gunther’s advice for Nick Aldis before SummerSlam 2026

    Furthermore, Gunther urged Nick Aldis not to get too carried away by the sudden attention and made it clear that he stood no chance of defeating him. He added that it was just one moment of fame for Aldis and that the former TNA star was destined to settle back into his suit and assume the managerial role again.

    “Don’t get too excited. I know it’s your big chance. I know it’s the biggest moment of your career. Surprisingly, it’s not one of the top moments of my career. I’m there for you. I give you that one moment of fame… and then on Monday, you can put a suit on again and get back to work.”

    Though it’s hard to imagine Aldis securing a win over Gunther, the former is no slouch in the ring and could put up a herculean effort at SummerSlam 2026.
