Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu survives Jhanlo Mark Sangiao’s striking before submitting him in intense brawl

‘The Tormentor’ Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu has torn through the competition throughout his near-perfect run in ONE Championship, but it was anything but straightforward.

After debuting with a unanimous decision win over Filipino slugger Adonis Sevilleno at ONE Friday Fights 13 in April 2023, the Mongolian veteran earned a spectacular first-round finish against Rockie Bactol.

Both victories were clear-cut, but in his third promotional outing, Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu faced some adversity that tested his mettle against another top name from the Philippines, Jhanlo Mark Sangiao.

In their ONE Fight Night 13 clash, the Team Tungaa and Shandas MMA warrior was sent to the canvas twice in the opening round. Sangiao’s piston-like right hand almost came close to finishing the contest, but the Mongolian survived and returned the favor with a left elbow in round two.

From there, ‘The Tormentor’ followed his man to the canvas and went to town with a series of ground and pound. Giving credit where it’s due, Sangiao hung on against everything his dance partner unleashed on the canvas.

But the Mongolian star used his pressure from the top to crank the Filipino’s right arm with a kimura, which forced the tap at 2:53 of the second round.

The highlight-reel triumph inside the Mecca of Muay Thai also earned Baatarkhuu a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu’s road to world title glory

Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu’s pristine 3-0 promotional slate, unfortunately, came to an end when he locked horns against Artem Belakh, with the former suffering a second-round TKO loss.

Since then, though, ‘The Tormentor’ has continued his winning run. He scored back-to-back submissions against Carlo Bumina-ang and Aaron Canarte before adding a solid unanimous decision win over Jeremy Pacatiw.

This run of victories earned him a crack at ONE bantamweight MMA world champion Fabricio Andrade at ONE Fight Night 38 in December last year.

He made the most of his massive opportunity against the Brazilian finishing machine, submitting him in the fourth round to walk away as the new divisional king. In the process, Baatarkhuu earned another $50,000 performance bonus.
