The race for this year’s NBA MVP will be tight, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as one of the frontrunners. SGA is having another historic season for the defending champions, the OKC Thunder. The hype around him just got more interesting after Zach Lowe’s statement about the reigning MVP.
Speaking on the latest episode of “The Zach Lowe Show,” the former ESPN analyst explained why SGA has his MVP vote. Lowe compared the Thunder superstar to Michael Jordan, whom the award is named after, and who is considered by many as the greatest of all time.
Thanks for the submission!
“I think Shai is the MVP,” Lowe said, according to BasketNews. “I don’t even care if the Spurs pass the Thunder. … Clutch numbers are outrageous, and this is Michael Jordan, but in the modern era. That’s how good he is offensively, and I just think you put all that together, he’s the MVP for me.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season. His scoring average is down, but he’s shooting at an efficient 55.3% from the field. It’s a crazy percentage for a guard, especially in the modern NBA.
SGA also made history in early March after breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most consecutive 20-point games in NBA history. But that’s not the only reason why he’s one of the favorites to win the MVP.
The OKC Thunder have been at the top of the West standings since the season started. The San Antonio Spurs are inching closer as the regular season begins to wind down, but SGA is having a tremendous campaign regardless of how the Thunder finish the season.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander comments on MVP race

Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs recently dropped some very interesting remarks about the MVP race that could have swung a few votes in his favor.
Wembanyama pointed out that the MVP should have an effect on both sides of the ball, while also mentioning how the Spurs have had the OKC Thunder’s number this season.
Speaking to reporters after Monday’s win over the Detroit Pistons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander chimed in on the MVP talk.
“I think it’s good for the league,” SGA said. “I think it’s good chatter. It gives people something to talk about. There’s a lot of good players in this league and a lot of guys in the conversation because of that.”
But when asked if he feels he’s going to be the MVP this season, he didn’t want to answer because his game always does the talking.
