NFL analyst Greg Cosell shared an extensive breakdown of quarterback prospect Fernando Mendoza ahead of the 2026 NFL draft.
While Cosell credits Mendoza for many things he does well, such as his natural throwing ability, timing, movement, accuracy and more, he also pointed out some red flags in his game. Cosell noted that he needs to work on his throwing tempo, pocket awareness, throw power and ability to deliver the ball on third down.

Mendoza won the CFP National Championship with Indiana in 2025 and also captured the Heisman Trophy. His junior season saw him throw for 3,535 yards, 41 touchdowns and six interceptions. The six-foot-five, 225-pounder is one of the most coveted quarterback prospects to come out of college in years.
The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to select him with their first pick in the draft in April. Of course, that’s not set in stone until Commissioner Roger Goodell announces the name on the card, but all signs point to Mendoza being the Raiders’ next franchise quarterback.
With the likes of Ashton Jeanty joining him in the backfield and a young coach in Klint Kubiak set to take the reins of the organization fresh off a Super Bowl win as the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, Mendoza should be primed for success in his rookie campaign.
New-look Raiders could set Fernando Mendoza up for success in 2026

The Raiders seem to be operating in the 2026 offseason like a team setting the table for their new franchise quarterback. The team signed veteran center Tyler Linderbaum from the Baltimore Ravens to a three-year, $81 million deal, as he’ll likely snap the ball to the rookie in 2026.
Las Vegas also shored up its defense with the signings of linebacker Nakobe Dean, linebacker Quay Walker, defensive end Malcolm Koonce and defensive back Eric Stokes. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor also signed a three-year deal with the Raiders to join the new-look offense being featured by Klint Kubiak.
With a much improved defense in 2026, a reliable veteran center in Linderbaum, and Jeanty to share the offensive load, Mendoza has the potential to have a record-setting debut with Las Vegas.
