EDM fans shocked as Oilers trade away 1st round pick in deal for Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach

Edmonton Oilers fans on social media reacted to Andrew Mangiapane’s trade to the Chicago Blackhawks at the trade deadline on Wednesday.

As part of the transaction, the Oilers received centers Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks received a conditional first-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

Trade details, per sources: To #LetsGoOilers: C Jason Dickinson (50% retained) F Colton Dach To #Blackhawks: F Andrew Mangiapane 2027 1st Round Pick Condition: 1st round pick is Top 12 protected.

Many Oilers fans on X (formerly called Twitter) seemed to be unimpressed with the management for giving away the first-round pick in the deal.

One tweeted:

“You’re probably not wrong…Jesus H Christ what a disaster.”

Another chimed in:

“That just looks like a terrible trade to me. The Oilers are getting worse possession stat wise by the day. And to throw in a 1st? What? Both these deals with Chicago made them worse. They need a D upgrade and goalie upgrade. Bowman looks awful.”

Here are some of the other top reactions on X:

“THEY HAD TO ATTACH A FIRST TO DUMP A JULY 1 SIGNING? Holy sh*t they are brutal with asset management,” a third fan wrote.

“Wow, a first? Ok Kings, trade Keumper for three firsts. Lol” one fan wrote.

“A first for Dickinson bro are we deadass bowman. I dream about what it would be like to have a half decent GM for once in my life every day,” another chimed in.

“OK I was a bit baffled to see us taking back a guy like Mangiapane who still has a year on his deal but, shit, if EDM is giving us a 1st that changes things,” added another.

Andrew Mangiapane hasn’t performed as hoped for the Edmonton Oilers

Andrew Mangiapane joined the Edmonton Oilers as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2025, signing a two-year contract with a $3.6 million AAV.

However, he underperformed significantly, leading to him being a healthy scratch at times and the subject of trade rumors for months leading up to this year’s trade deadline.

The 29-year-old forward racked up 14 points through seven goals and as many assists in 52 games this season, with a plus/minus of -14.
