NFL fans react as C.J. Stroud gets ruled out of TNF game vs. Bills

The Houston Texans will be without their star quarterback C.J. Stroud against the Buffalo Bills in Week 12 of the 2025 NFL season. The Texans will kick off the week on Thursday at NRG Stadium.

Amid a two-game winning streak, the AFC South team faces a big challenge against a Bills team that comes from beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 44-32 shootout. However, the Texans will be without Stroud and safety Jalen Pitre against Josh Allen and Co., insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday.

NFL fans reacted to the announcement on social media, with some claiming this meant DeMeco Ryans would start David Mills over C.J. Stroud even when he clears concussion protocol.

“CJ soft benching,” one fan said.

“Davis Mills is better,” another fan said.

“Davis mills has been better anyways,” another fan said.

Others went further and said Mills would dominate Josh Allen while bringing down Stroud’s contributions.

“Davis Mills taking over the starting job,” one fan said.

“If the Texans lose, watch people pretend Stroud would’ve magically fixed everything,” another fan said.

“Davis Mills exposing Josh Allen,” another fan said.

The Houston Texans are still in the race to win the AFC South despite a remarkable season from the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) and the resurgence of the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4). They will face a tough challenge against the Bills, but Sean McDermott’s team has been beaten before this season.

How has David Mills fared replacing C.J. Stroud?

The Houston Texans are in the middle of a two-game winning streak. They have won three of the four games Mills has played, including a 44-10 win against the Baltimore Ravens in October and a three-point loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 9.

Mills has taken over in the last two games, first going 27 of 45 for 292 yards and two touchdowns against one interception and two sacks in the 36-29 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He added three carries for 20 yards and one touchdown.

On Sunday, he completed 26 of 41 pass attempts for 274 yards and one touchdown in the 16-13 win over the Tennessee Titans. Mills carried the ball twice for a 14-yard gain.

The Texans have stayed afloat despite not having C.J. Stroud on the field. A win against the Bills would boost their expectations and perhaps start a conversation about who should start at quarterback moving forward.
