Warriors Trade Package For Giannis Antetokounmpo Spares Steph Curry But Puts His Henchman & Others on Expendable List

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly inclined to make an aggressive pursuit of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline. According to Warriors reporter Monte Poole on Friday, only two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry is untouchable in trade conversations.

Poole quoted a league source in saying that rival teams would have to “give up a lot” to acquire Antetokounmpo. He added that the Warriors are willing to meet that demand, which means that Curry’s longtime teammate, Draymond Green, could also be traded.

“According to several sources contacted this week, the Warriors are willing to meet that criteria,” Poole wrote. “They’re ready give up a whole lot. The general assumption is that Curry is, of course, the only untouchable.”

Curry and Green had been teammates since the 2012-13 season, which was Green’s rookie year with the Warriors. They are the centerpieces of the Golden State dynasty that won four titles. However, with an opportunity to acquire a generational talent like Antetokounmpo, Golden State could part ways with the longtime Warriors star.

Several reports have speculated that Milwaukee prefers young players and draft capital in exhange for Antetokounmpo.

NBA insider says the Warriors would be the ‘most aggressive’ team in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes

Aside from the Golden State Warriors, other teams rumored to be interested in trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo are the New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat.

According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst on Friday, among teams linked to the Milwaukee Bucks star, the Warriors are the most likely to be the most aggressive.

“If there is a deal thats going to be made before the deadline, in my belief, Golden State is the team to make that deal,” Windhorst said. “Because the other teams have to get third and fourth teams involved, and that is why Golden State is going to probably be the most aggressive between now and Thursday. Their best position is doing the deal before next Thursday.”

On Wednesday, Windhorst said the Warriors could be considered the frontrunner for Antetokounmpo because they could offer four first-round picks along with a couple of pick swaps. In addition, Golden State could sweeten the deal by adding a young player like Brandin Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga.
