The Alabama Crimson Tide lost a close Week 12 game against the Oklahoma Sooners. Kalen DeBoer’s troops lost at home to an inspired Brent Venables-led Sooners. The loss drops their season record to 8-2.
Following the defeat, SEC analyst Paul Finebaum has issued a warning to Alabama about the do-or-die nature of this year’s Iron Bowl. According to On3 Sports, Finebaum said,
Thanks for the submission!
“As far as Alabama is concerned, they hurt themselves badly because they played a quality team and lost by two points. Now, they have to do one thing. They must to go to Auburn a week from Saturday and win.”

Finebaum continued,
“If you know college football, you know how difficult it is for the Alabama Crimson Tide to win down there, especially under the lights.”
He concluded, saying,
“The last two times Alabama, under Nick Saban, has gone to Auburn against weaker teams, it took four overtimes for the Crimson Tide to win that one four years ago. The last time it only took a 4th & 31 play by Jalen Milroe to get Alabama to the SEC Championship Game.”
The Crimson Tide saw its eighth game-winning streak halted by a motivated Oklahoma Sooners side. It was a two-point loss that had the potential to alter Kalen DeBoer’s second year on the job.
Alabama at risk of missing playoffs for second straight season
The Alabama Crimson Tide missed out on the playoffs in Kalen DeBoer’s first year on the job during the 2024 season. The Crimson Tide compiled a 9-4 record and did not qualify for the playoffs in their first season after Nick Saban’s retirement.
Kalen DeBoer’s troops are now in danger of missing the playoffs for another campaign. They enter the last two games of the regular season with an 8-2 record and are currently ranked No. 10 in the country.
There are just 12 playoff slots in the current college football playoffs format, and there’s a real chance that one more loss would knock the Crimson Tide out of the race. They have two more regular-season games to secure their spot, against the Eastern Illinois Panthers and the Auburn Tigers.
The Crimson Tide will face off against the Panthers in Week 13 and the Tigers in Week 14. Their fans will watch closely as the program looks to avoid the embarrassment of consecutive postseason misses under former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer.
