The New York Rangers swept the weekend by a combined score of 12-2 over Detroit and Washington and are now home again to face off against a playoff bound Buffalo Sabres team that is tied with Tampa for the division lead. Buffalo is all of a sudden a solid team with a balanced offense and defense, one that could actually win a round in the playoffs. Can’t believe those words were just written.
The Rangers still sit 29th in the NHL, where things are starting to get interesting from a draft position. Seattle is tied in points but has a game in hand. Calgary trails the Rangers by 2 points with a game in hand. At this point, it’s between those 3 teams for 3rd, 4th, and 5th overall picks heading into the draft lottery. By goal differential, the Rangers are the better of the three, but that’s why they play the games.
