The Rangers are now in a playoff spot, albeit barely, after last night’s dominating performance over the Columbus Blue Jackets. They are one point ahead of Montreal and two ahead of Columbus, but both teams have a game in hand. Montreal is red hot right now, so the Rangers need to start beating some playoff teams to hold onto this spot. It starts tonight with Edmonton in town. A win on a travel day and a back to back sends a warning to the rest of the NHL.
The good news is that Edmonton’s defense has been atrocious of late, allowing the most goals-per-60 since the trade deadline. With the Rangers offense seemingly alive and the defense finally getting the right personnel out there, that bodes well. But they need to execute.
