The record, which appears in the Pamela Anderson-led film The Last Showgirl, scored a nomination for Best Original Song
The Last Showgirl stars Pamela Anderson as a Las Vegas showgirl struggling to come to terms with the reality of her show abruptly closing after three decades. In an original song for the Gia Coppola film, a tender ballad titled “Beautiful That Way,” Miley Cyrus offers consoling encouragement for the character navigating sorrowful beauty standards and testing the foundation of the community she built around her.
“I know it hurts, for what it’s worth/But you had to know summer would go,” she sings on the record, which scored a nomination for Best Original Song at the 2025 Golden Globes. Cyrus co-wrote “Beautiful That Way” with Lykke Li and longtime collaborator Andrew Wyatt, who also produced and arranged the song.
“This song is devoted to the film and focused on the story Gia and Pam are telling,” Cyrus shared, per Variety. “The lyrics really resonate with me personally but sonically this song is a love letter to their project.”
The Last Showgirl premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and is slated for an international release on Jan. 10. Select theaters will screen the film for a limited preview run beginning Dec. 13.
“Pamela is deeply embedded into my earliest memories with my mother,” Cyrus added. “We both worshipped Pam and still do. I took the emotion I have towards those times with my mom and the few times we’ve gotten to spend with Pam. I thought a lot about what this film means to her not just as an actress but as the special person that she is. I celebrate evolution and she has done that in such a graceful way which is reflected in Last Showgirl.”
Cyrus’ Golden Globes nomination marks her second overall nod at the show and her first since 2009, when “I Thought I Lost You” from Disney’s Bolt scored a nomination for Best Original Song.
