Damir Dzumhur, the 33-year-old ATP player from Bosnia, cut a furious figure at an ongoing Challenger Tour event in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic. The former World No. 23 angrily confronted second-round opponent Coleman Wong after the 21-year-old from Hong Kong happened to celebrate a double fault from the Bosnian at a crucial juncture of their encounter.
Dzumhur, the No. 3 seed at the tournament, received a first-round bye and began his campaign against qualifier Wong. The Bosnian was the favorite on paper to win the contest and it seemed as if things would be going all his way after he won the first set 6-3. However, Wong leveled the match up by clinching the second 6-4.
Thanks for the submission!
Wong then went on to decisively break Dzumhur in the third set’s fifth game, following which he reacted joyfully. However, this didn’t go down well with the Bosnian. During the break in play that followed, the ATP No. 64 made his way to the 21-year-old, who at the time was sitting on his courtside chair. Here, Dzumhur threateningly told Wong:
“On a double fault? Funny, huh? Look at my face and laugh… look at my face and laugh!”

Despite Dzumhur’s confrontational approach, Wong kept his cool and the chair umpire eventually intervened to diffuse the tense situation. The 21-year-old ultimately won the match by taking the third and final set 6-2. Later, the ATP No. 123 from Hong Kong reflected on the incident and also revealed the names of the players who motivate him to keep his calm in pressure situations.
“I look at Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner, they stay calm in the most important moments” – Rising ATP star Coleman Wong on not losing his cool despite Damir Dzumhur’s outburst

Coleman Wong attended a press conference following his three-set comeback win over Damir Dzumhur. Here, the Hongkonger touched on the Bosnian confronting him during their recent encounter, saying:
“I’ve watched many of his matches and I knew what was coming. Many people know how he is, and also how tough he can be.”
He also talked about being motivated by reigning World No. 1 and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner respectively, with both the Spaniard and the Italian being widely regarded for their ability to keep themselves calm on the court no matter how much pressure they find themselves under.
“I also consider myself very emotional, but I need to learn. This is how the best players do it. I look at Alcaraz and Sinner… they stay calm in the most important moments. That’s why they’re so good. When you stay calm, you make the best decisions,” Wong added.
The 21-year-old will face Alexander Blockx next in the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Cap Cana.
