Bryan Ferry Teams With Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for ‘Star’

New track, featuring Amelia Barratt on lead vocals, features on Roxy Music singer’s upcoming Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023

Bryan Ferry has shared his first original song in nearly a decade with “Star,” a collaboration with singer Amelia Barratt and Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

The track, which features on the Roxy Music singer’s upcoming five-disc Retrospective: Selected Recordings, began as a demo the NIN duo sent to Ferry, who in turn teamed with Barratt to turn the sketch into “Star,” with Barrett handling lead vocals on the track:

“A couple of years ago I helped [Barratt] record an audiobook here in my studio. I was very impressed by her writing, and this is the first song we did together,” Ferry added in a statement. “I’m very excited about this new work – there’s a lot more to come.”

While Ferry has sporadically released new music over the past few decades, it’s usually either in the form of reworked classics from his Roxy Music and solo catalog (like the orchestral The Jazz Age in 2012 and Bitter-Sweet in 2018) or cover albums like his Dylanesque; a previously unreleased reimagining of Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs to Me” also features on Retrospective: Selected Recordings

However, “Star” marks Ferry’s first new original music since his 2014 LP Avonmore

Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023 is divided into five discs highlighting different stages of Ferry’s career: “The Best of Bryan Ferry,” “Compositions,” “Interpretations,” “Rare and Unreleased,” and “Selected Recordings 1973-2023.” Each disc will explore different aspects and eras of Ferry’s body of work from B sides and outtakes to focusing on his ability to span genres and expand the limits of songwriting.
