Tx Lighthouse: A Mother’s Journey to Empowering Special Needs Families

Embarking on a journey in the special needs world can be daunting, with many unknowns to navigate. From finding suitable doctors and health insurance options to managing the school system and identifying additional therapy providers, the path can often feel overwhelming and convoluted. Yet amidst the challenges, there are beacons of hope and support, like Tx Lighthouse, ready to guide families through the maze of special needs care.

My name is Nufar, and I’m not just the founder of Tx Lighthouse, but also a wife, a proud mother of three, and an educator with over 17 years of experience. My journey through the special needs landscape began when my middle child was almost three years old and not yet verbal. Living in California at the time, we found ourselves asking questions about developmental milestones and seeking guidance from doctors and Early Intervention programs. However, the system seemed to move at a sluggish pace, dismissing our concerns and delaying diagnosis.

For almost two years, we felt lost in a sea of misdiagnosis and frustration, being told we were looking in all the wrong places. It wasn’t until we sought private evaluation that we received the accurate diagnoses of High-Functioning ASD and ADHD. Determined to provide the best possible care for our child, we made the decision to withdraw him from school and dedicate his learning time to private therapies.

After nearly a year of intensive therapies, we decided to transition back into the public school system. However, we were met with resistance and rigidity, prompting us to make a life-changing decision: to move to Texas.

Before making the move, we conducted extensive research on the differences in rules and regulations between California and Texas. We engaged in vast preparation work, ensuring that we were equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate the transition successfully. When we finally arrived in Texas, we were immensely grateful to have found the right place for our family.

In Texas, we found a supportive community that was able to accommodate our son’s needs. With careful planning and preparation, we made the move smoothly, creating a stable environment for our family. My background as an educator provided me with valuable insights into supporting children with diverse needs. Having worked in a mid-size classroom, I understand the importance of integrating learning effectively while catering to individual differences. This experience allowed me to see the situation from both sides – as a parent and as a teacher.

Combining this experience with my journey as a parent of a child with special needs, I discovered a passion for assisting families through their challenges. At Tx Lighthouse, we understand that each family and each child is different, and no two cases are alike. This understanding drives our commitment to learning the different systems and regulations governing special needs care.

We believe that by educating ourselves and our clients, we can empower families to advocate effectively for their children and navigate the complexities of the special needs landscape with confidence. That’s where Tx Lighthouse comes in. As a professional and quality-focused organization, Tx Lighthouse is committed to providing support and guidance to families navigating the special needs landscape.
