Kelly Ripa Celebrates Turning 54 On ‘Live’: “Why Are You Making Me Work On My Birthday?”

Who wants to work on their birthday? No one, that’s who. Kelly Ripa had the pleasure of celebrating her 54th birthday on Wednesday’s Live with Kelly and Mark, where her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos not only gifted her kale in honor of National Kale Day, but also offered up “some questions you should ask yourself on your birthday.”

Ripa lamented, “Oh my gosh, do I have to question myself on my birthday?”

Consuelos asked Ripa what she is “looking forward to next year,” and urged her to “consider what [she] want[s] to do or experience [in] the coming year,” to which Ripa teased, “I’m hoping that at a certain point, my birthday falls on a weekend so we don’t have to do this on live television.”

“I feel like we’ve been on a run where my birthday has really been on the air,” she added.

After Consuelos told Ripa to “take a moment to celebrate and be grateful for the highlights and successes of the past year,” she acknowledged that “there’s been a lot” and that they have “been very lucky.”

Consuelos asked, “Where are you now?”

Ripa replied, “I’m right here. Same as I was last year.”

The two cracked up as Consuelos told Ripa to “consider where you are in your life, and if you are where you thought you would be.”

“What is the purpose in life?” he asked, as Ripa exclaimed, “Oh my God! Why are you making me work on my birthday?”

Consuelos quipped to someone off camera, “I told you this would be triggering.”

He proceeded to ask Ripa what her “life goals” are, before ultimately crumpling up his piece of paper and concluding that they “should stop.” Joking that they should continue this discussion over dinner tonight, Ripa teased that it would be “very fun dinner conversation.”

“Kelly, what are your goals? To celebrate my birthday not in front of everyone,” she quipped.

Live with Kelly and Mark airs on weekdays. Check out their website for your local listings.
